Synopsis

Originally debuted at 1959 Venice Film Festival, this freewheeling documentary was filmed at the famous Newport Jazz Festival in Rhode Island. Featuring the immaculate performances of such jazz heavyweights as Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, and Eric Dolphy, as well as many other musicians and characters who populate the culture, it remains one of the best snapshots of a time and place in 20th century America put to film.
